Recently, working on a complex zoning bylaw, I was struck at how few reference standards the planning profession has. For instance, every project is subject to a zoning bylaw and every zoning bylaw has to have a set of allowable uses – except the definitions for any given use varies between communities. This issue is central to all planning work but the profession has no central land use definition resource. We need to change that.
